Mar 12, Akau Anyieth, Guest Speaker, Title of service “Man Without a Country”

Join us at 10:30 am on Sunday where our guest speaker will be Mr. Akau Anyieth, a local high school Biology and Physical Science teacher.  He will speak about his experiences as a Sudanese immigrant to the United States. He will share the story of his journey to America including poems that reflect on his childhood experiences in Sudan and Saudi Arabia. Mr. Anyieth has over 13 years of experience with the United States immigration system. He will describe the confusing, uncertain, and expensive process of legal immigration, as well as, the challenges faced by both documented and undocumented immigrants in the United States today.

At 9:00 am join the Wisdom Seekers as they discuss What Money Can’t Buy by Michael J. Sandel.

Feb 26, Linda Pucket, Member, topic is “Love, What It Is and What It Is Not”

Join us on Sunday, February 26th, at 10:30 AM in honor of Valentine’s Day, Linda Puckett will speak at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hot Springs about “Love, What It Is and What It Is Not”. Linda has been a member of UUCHS since moving to the Hot Springs area in 2013. She is a licensed Universal Life minister and Life Cycle Celebrant, performing ceremonies such as weddings and funerals.  Retired in 2004 from a career in California in Environmental Transportation Systems and Corporate Community Volunteerism, Linda  lived several years in Oklahoma to be near family before formally retiring to Hot Springs Village. She holds a BS degree in business. She is also certificated as a Laughter Yoga Leader, Faster EFT Healer, Oneness Blesser and Raindrop  Essential Oil Therapist.

At 9:00 AM the Wisdom Seekers will meet to discuss “WHAT MONEY CAN’T BUY,” by Michael Sandel.  The author “provokes a debate that’s been missing in our market-driven age: What is the proper role of markets in a democratic society, and how can we protect the moral and civic goods that markets do not honor and money cannot buy?”

Feb 19, Rev. Pat Farnan, guest speaker, will speak on Social Justice

February 19th at 10:30 AM, Rev. Pat Farnan will be speaking on social justice at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hot Springs.

Rev. Pat Farnan is an ordained clergy woman in the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, also known as MCC. She has pastored churches in Galveston and in Corpus Christi, Texas. She previously served in the United States Navy for twenty-four years and retired as a Lieutenant Commander. Pat has traveled all over the world and has recently moved to Bismark, Arkansas with her wife Karolynn and her son, Will

Feb 12, Tiffany Gonzales, Member, Poetry Readings

Join us at 10:30 am. Tiffany Gonzales will be reading a selection of her own recent poetry dealing with her experiences of love, family, parenting, friendships, and world events. Some of these poems were submitted to an application for the Juniper Summer Writing Institute at University of Massachusetts Amherst. She found out Tuesday she was accepted.

At 9:00 am, the Wisdom Seekers will discuss the book “The Songlines” by Bruce Chatwin.

At 10:00 am, we will have coffee/tea and light snacks for the Social Time.
