Easter Sunday Service and Potluck, Alan Clark, lay leader

Easter Sunday, April 20, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hot Springs will host a service presented by G. Alan Clark.

G. Alan Clark, a native of Hope, Arkansas and a long-time resident of Hot Springs, received his BA degree from Henderson State University with honors. Clark then received his master’s degree in History from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is a retired federal employee of the Social Security Administration and is currently serving as a Garland County Election commissioner. Clark is a long-time member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hot Springs.

Clark’s service will include a short film of Karen Armstrong followed by open discussion. Ms. Armstrong is a British author and commentator known for her books on comparative religion. A former nun, she went from a conservative to a more liberal and mystical Christian faith. Ms. Armstrong attended St. Anne’s College, Oxford, England, while in the convent and majored in English. She would become disillusioned and leave the convent in 1969. She first rose to prominence in 1993 with her book “A History of God: The 4,000 Year Old Quest of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam”. Her work focuses on commonalities of the major religions, such as the importance of compassion and the Golden Rule. In 2009 she called for the Charter for Compassion.

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Hot Springs is located at 100 Norwalk (the corner of Spring Street and Norwalk). In addition, the Religious Exploration group will meet at 9:00am and continue the lively discussion of “Situation Ethics” from 1966 by Joseph Fletcher.

Immediately following the service will be an Easter Pot Luck. The Board will provide a spiral ham. Here is a suggested list of food to bring based on the first letter of your last name. So if you last name starts with the letter A-G please bring a Salad, H-M a Side Dish, N-S a Dessert, and T-Z Bread or Drinks. If this suggestion does not suit your plan, please deviate!
