March 2, John Nino, lay leader

This Sunday at 10:30 a.m. John Nino will be discussing how dialogue will support a non-Judgmental approach to improved understanding.

In a sermon by the Rev. Renee Ruchotzke, Leadership Development Consultant, Central East Regional Group (CERG) of the UUA, she says, “The lesson I’m trying to learn as I cultivate my own intercultural competence with the “new normal” is that there is no “normal,” at least when it comes to the expressions of our Unitarian Universalist faith that are cultural. Instead of being judgmental from our own cultural lens, we can practice dialogue that helps us to listen to and understand how others live in and interpret the world.”

John retired from the Army in March 1995, as a Colonel, after 30 years of service. His last assignment was Senior Emergency Management Liaison Officer at Headquarters, First Army in Atlanta, GA. He was responsible for coordinating with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide military support to civil authorities in response to natural disasters and other declared emergencies in the southeastern region of the United States. John graduated from Seton Hall University with a Bachelor of Arts in History, and later obtained a Masters Degree in Business Administration from The College of William and Mary. He and his wife have resided in Hot Springs for over five years.
